Looking out from inside the sunroom
The shadows of summer - deep, hard and sharp have been much in evidence today. Here, inside the sunroom, is one place in the house where there is a cool refuge from the heat outside. The double windows are open, the double height room (with open roof beams in a barn like structure) is dark and airy, the gauze drapes waft gently in what little breeze exists.

I am enamoured of the French and Italian way of life, where the gardens and the rooms of the house seem almost to merge with each other - and this is the atmosphere that I cultivate here. Banks of lavender just outside the doors scent the air which floats in through the windows, while on the step, two orange trees are in flower and add to the heady perfumes in the air.

Spot that cat has a favourite place on the Persian rug, just inside the door - she lies there, sprawled full length in the evenings, keeping watch with one eye just in case a tasty morsel on four legs happens to scuttle by. But at 15 years old, the mobile morsels are generally too much effort to chase - especially when morsels appear in her dish at regular intervals with no effort on her part whatsoever!

Journal prompt - What is your favourite place in the house at this time of the year? Where do you sit to watch the world go by? What time of day do you do that - who do you share the time with?
