| The fruit of the vine...Such a thrill to see clusters of grapes developing on the vine that grows against the garage. I have no idea if the fruits will turn the deep purple that is expected, as we are having so little sun at the moment - but just to see their abundance is exciting.
This particular vine is of the variety "Brandt" - bought as much for the glorious colour of the leaves as they turn in the autumn as for the fruits. You can see just how they will look in a month or two from the photograph taken last year. So now we have apples, blackberries, grapes and even figs growing and ripening in the garden. The figs number only four at the moment, because it is a relatively young plant - but even they will be nursed to full ripeness and savoured individually when they are plump and soft and purple. Journal Prompt Do you grow any fruit or vegetables in your own gardens? Were the plants already resident - a gift from the past - or have you chosen to grow them yourself? When they yield their produce - what do you do with it? Any favourite old recipes handed down through the family - or is the produce just eaten and enjoyed without any further processing? Write about the pleasures that you get from the products - and the effort that it takes to grow them! |
